AIDS / 2009 SURVEY (MICHAEL LIPIN) A US health research group says Americans have become much less concerned about HIV/AIDS as a national health problem, even as the epidemic spreads more quickly than previously thought. The group also says that many Americans still view HIV/AIDS infection as a stigma. The Obama administration says it plans to tackle those problems through a new public awareness campaign. KENYA TAX ISSUE (CATHY MAJTENYI) Members of Kenya's Parliament are highly paid compared to lawmakers in many other parts of the world. The MPs pay taxes on their basic salary but not on their allowances, which amount to more than four times their salary. In a recent poll, almost all Kenyans interviewed said they want their leaders' allowances to be taxed, and many vowed not to pay their taxes until this happens. Truth, considered a crusader for women's rights as well, is the first black woman to be honored with a bust at the US Capitol. NATIONAL CIVILIAN COMMUNITY CORPS (SUSAN LOGUE) President Obama made national service a theme of his campaign. The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which he signed on Tuesday, expands current AmeriCorps programs for Americans who wish to serve. These offer opportunities for people of all ages. One puts about 11-hundred, 18 to 24-year-olds to work on a variety of community service projects. The National Civilian Community Corps was inspired by a program created 75 years ago, during the Great Depression.
