Day 25 of "No Cone" Challenge... 6 more days to go! In this video, I am reviewing L.A. Natural styling gel by Giovanni... a "no-cone, no build-up" gel that some of you recommended I try. Co-washed using V05 Moisture Milks, then smoothed in Trader Joe's Nourish Spa conditioner with V05 & oils mixed in then smoothed in some Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol. Covered with plastic cap for a few minutes, then smoothed in Vital Plus Herbal Organics conditioner which helped smooth the hair cuticle more & get my curls to form their shape. All conditioners are "cone-free". I lightly detangled my hair by separating a few tangles with my fingers... My hair hasn't been fully detangled since 3 days ago. Smoothed, Smoothed, Smoothed, then let cold water run down hair to close cuticle and get the curls to pop. While still in the shower, I blotted dripping water with old t-shirt then smoothed in the Giovanni L.A. Natural styling gel making sure every hair strand was coated, then shook my head to separate the curls. That's it!... The L.A. Natural stryling gel by Giovanni gets 2 thumbs up. I would recommend this product if you don't mind crunchy hair... no build up, no flakes, it's not tacky & sticky, it can be easily removed with water & conditioner (co-wash) & not having to use shampoo. I love the natural organic ingredients it contains such as: Rosemary Oil, Nettle oil, Thyme Oil, Birch Leaf oil, Chamomile oil, Clary, Lavender, Coltsfoot leaf, Yarrow oil, Mallow, Horsetail oil, Soybean Protein, Vitamin E, & Grapefruit Seed The only turnoff I have about this product is the cost... $9 for a 6.8 oz. bottle. I was, however, told by watchfuleye2008 that I can get it cheaper at luckyvitamin.com and was also told by dramaangel84 that I can get it cheaper at the following online sites: vitacost.com, amazon.com and massagewarehouse.com.

May 27, 2009 - Cool

May 27, 2009 - I used it again today, but this time I put much more conditioner underneath the gel. We'll see how it dries, and how much crunchiness I get. Someone also told me that they add coconut oil over top of the gel and that helps soften the hair more.

May 27, 2009 - Thanks for the tip. I'll try the coconut oil and more conditioner underneath. I'll be on the look out to see how it went for you today! Thanks!

May 27, 2009 - I may or may not do a vid of my dried results tonight.

May 27, 2009 - Oh that's fine, no worries. If you have time just to make a quick note that's cool too. I was just reading over on Happy Curls (forgot I was a member there lol) that the key is to put an oil UNDER it. It seems the trick is to layer a really moisturizing leave in, oil, then gel and there's no crunchiness. I'm going to experiment when I get home and I'll let you know how it goes!!
ShidaNatural Says:
May 27, 2009 - I will do the same, but I will be using EVOO. That's my favorite conditioning oil. I normally do put oil on before the fixing hair product like gel or foam mousse. I don't know why I didn't this time. I guess since I already have oil in one of the conditioners I use, but I'll make sure I seal with oil before putting on the gel next time... Thanks!
ShidaNatural Says:
May 27, 2009 - Yea, the price is kinda out of my range (for gel), but a few folks recommended other places where I can get it for less. Rite Aid was one of them, and there are 2 other websites which I posted in the descr. box... and thanks for the compliment.

May 28, 2009 - Sorry to hear that. I've used the KCCC and loved it but you see I have trouble paying $9 for gel. I can't see myself paying $26 for the KCCC gel all the time. I may be revisiting the EcoStyler (clear) gel and just make sure I put on a lot of conditioner then oil prior to putting on gel so my hair won't dry so hard & crunch but soft & bouncy.

May 28, 2009 - Beautiful, i'm just learning about how much gel to use, i have been using just for me smoothing gel & the curl smoother creme.
ShidaNatural Says:
May 28, 2009 - and how r those products working for you?
NATURAL0708 Says:
May 28, 2009 - I mix them together and i do a twist set and i wake up and take them out, i love it, i just was introduced to KCC, and I love that also, they both give me the same effect. One is cheaper than the other of course. But they give a great out come for me. Next I'll do a video on the 2 products from Just for Me.

May 28, 2009 - You know I got those earrings too...lol I've had trouble with just about all of the gels with the flaking and itching...so I've stuck with KCCC. It did last me for 4 months though. So paying the $26 is alot at first...but its part of my holy grail kit As usual your hair looks really good though
ShidaNatural Says:
May 28, 2009 - Wher'd u get ur earrings, & r they same exact color??? I got mine from... hmm, where did I get them?.... oh yea, I got them from an outside stand at Cowtown Flea Market for $2.50. The KCCC is the biz but I have a lot of hair, and I'm heavy-handed with product so I had to give up the KCCC, not becuz of the results I got, which were awesome, but becuz of the cost. I just bought some more gel today. I was in Walmart strolling thru hair aisle & picked up a 40 oz. jar of La Bella clear gel for $2.97

May 27, 2009 - I'm LOVING this gel, but I'm really trying to figure out how to get less (really, no) crunch. Love the shine and how it defines my curls, but I'm not loving the crunch so much. I just BC'ed and people want to touch my hair and I want it to be soft. Let me know if you find a way to end the crunch. I love Giovanni! II use their conditioners too. I have the Direct leave in under this gel.
